AIDS Memorial Quilt at UCC, Congregational
The Rev. Paul Johnson led guided meditations on Monday, June 23, and Wednesday, June 25, at 12:15 p.m. in the sanctuary at UCC, Sixth and Kellogg. Everyone in the community was invited to come to the church that week to observe the quilt and spend time in prayer or meditation.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt began with a single 3 x 6 foot panel created in San Francisco in 1987. Today the quilt is more than 47,000 individual 3 x 6 foot panels, each commemorating the life of someone who died of AIDS. By revealing the humanity behind the statistics, The AIDS quilt helps teach compassion, triumphs over taboo, stigma and phobia; and inspires individuals to take direct responsibility for their own well being and that of their family, friends and community.
Ecumenical Partnership: July Worship with First Christian
First Christian Church and United Church of Christ, Congregational have shared July worship services for decades, long ahead of their denominations’ 1989 historic partnership which proclaimed mutual recognition of their sacraments and ordained ministry. The July 20 and 27 services are at First Christian with the Rev. Paul Johnson preaching. All services begin at 9:30 a.m.
