Learning for Adults
United Church of Christ-Congregational has many groups for learning and developing faith. New groups are started or groups evolve as members define them. Adults can select from a range of offerings such as Bible study, forums to study timely and issue-oriented topics, and women’s spirituality. Join any group for enlightening and supportive learning.
Learning Center (Sundays, 9:30 a.m.)
An adult forum on contemporary faith-related topics meets in Fellowship Hall during the Sunday School hour. The group chooses topics for presentation and discussion. Presenters are from the congregation and the community. The Learning Center started in 1972 as a family Christian Education program and has developed into an adult forum.
Jan. 15 Social Styles -- Roger Parmenter will explain the four distinct ways of interaction or social styles that people use: analytical, amiable, driving and expressive. Each of the categories represent roughly 25 percent of the population, which means only about one-fourth of the people you associate with prefer to interact in the way you do. What are you doing to manage your relationships? The TRACOM Group, a workplace performance company, developed the social style model.
Jan. 22 Iowa Legislative Issues of Interest to the UCC -- Lisa Heddens is service coordinator for Lutheran Services in Iowa’s People Place family resource center. People Place is on the second floor of the UCC educational wing. Heddens is also the State Representative for House District 46.
