Ames UCC Green Team

To prepare for Theologian-in-Residence 2022, the Ames UCC Bible Study read and discussed “Cathedral on Fire”, a Church Handbook for the Climate Crisis by Brooks Berndt. One of the big ideas in the book is that “we will take action for our children.” We asked Pastor Hannah to ask the youth what their thoughts and feelings were on Climate Change. The teens were deeply concerned and felt little action was taking place. One comment that struck me was “Adults sometime say they’re glad that they won’t be around to deal with it.”
With blessings from Social Justice Committee, the Green Team was formed and met for the first time on August 14th, 2022. Our focus this year will be Global Warming and reducing carbon footprints through positive messages of hope. Our team is called by our faith to care for our neighbors by caring for our common home.
Green Team members are Christa Andersen, Terry Potter, Dave Oliveira, Lynette Spicer, Keith Knapp, Megan Henson, Jan and Neal Flora, Linda and Bruce Hanson, Tom Meyer, Jared Walter, Barbara Faidley, Thiago Wiedthauper, Phil Spike, Craig Abel, and Pat Spangler.
